DETAILED UX CASE STUDY FOR UNIVERSITY OF ARTS LONDON: COURSE

Background

Demonstrate the Steps & Methodologies to improve -
The User Interface & User Journey of prospective students in the Course Section. The concept to solve is a UX solution to transform my project based to a product-based learning services platform

Goal

Unleash the power of a course-centric experience for students and gain a larger share of their study time. Showcase the value of the UAL courses experience as a Course Dashboard on UAL website.

What are we solving?

Student problems- I have to scramble around and look for materials. [Professors] don’t give you what you need… it’s like every man for himself…” - Bradford, 4th-year Business student. Students think of one course at a time- So our Course Dashboard is an important opportunity to address their needs for a student career.

Student JTDB

Direction: I need to know what to study next to prepare for which course
Effectiveness & Efficiency: I need to know the most effective way to take up the course.
Engagement: I need an engaging and motivating way suited to how I learn.

Heuristic analysis

If they land on the Courses section, the value is unclear to students because there are many levels of Hierarchy (clicks to another surface) and we do not fully surface materials in the context of their course choice or provide clear solutions to all the JTBD.

What is the hypothesis?

If the course dashboard supports and motivates students while clearly showing a path of focus with easy access to frequently used tools student are more likely to engage with content and return for future visits thus increasing engagement and retention and decreasing cancellation rate.
